Ipad- The good, the bad and the great!

I went to an Australian Alumni night tonight....I know, what a fraud. O well, my mum made me go. Anyways, as well as the networking part of the night there was also a talk by these two( none of which were actually Australian) tech-geeks about the Ipad.

Ipad: The good, the bad, and the great.

It was fairly interesting and fairly insightful, wasn't the most inspiring talk I've ever heard but I mean it was a 20 minute lecture to fill the time about the Ipad at a small Thai-Austrlian alumni night at the four seasons.

It was interesting because these two guys were not Macintosh people but they were Microsoft guys, so, clearly, they weren't being paid by Mr. Jobbs to to the talk but genuinely in love with their Ipads. They don't use anything apple apart from the Ipad.

I don't even know what the point of this post is, I just thought I would share what I heard.

The first thing Mr. G ( I can't remember his name, oops) said about the Ipad was that

Its NOT a replacement for :
a pc
a laptop
a notebook
a notepad (a real one)
a mobile

It may be able to replace a computer for those who only use one to browse the internet, and may be answer a few emails ( apparently its really nod great to type on )

It is basically a bigger verision of an ipod touch ( or the iphone apart from the fact that you can't use it to call people)

Its good for:

browsing the internet,

reading books, magazines etc

watching videos while you travel?

carry presentations around or photographs?

.....and apps + games.....
but I think thats about it.

Its great for older people as its easy to use and its big! ( i think this is why all the oldies were getting all excited about it, its a new gadget that they actually know how to use)

but I do think its a great gadget, not a necessity but a convinience, especially those who travle.

quickly, the bad.....It doesn't support flash, so if you are browsing websites that have flash on them, you will just see white. Now a days a lot of websites contain lots of flash images and grpahics.

apparently, there's a whole open letter from Steve Jobbs on the apples website about the reason for this. ( Ipad not supporting flash)

Also, the other bad thing about the ipad is that it doesn't have a USB port so you can't put usb sticks or other devices straight into the Ipad . They sell their own int he apple shops for $40.....I think this is why.

and for the e-book purposes, its great as the screen is big but its LED so I don't think you should take it to the beach as you won't be able to see anything on that screen of yours anyway.....

Over all. I do like the Ipad but I still have my eye sight, so an Iphone will do.
