a designer's profile....Shigeru Ban

Mr. Ban is an architect whose specialty lies in paper engineering.

Born in Tokyo, Japan in 1957 , founder of the Shigeru Ban Architect.

I read about him in an article in the TCDC zine. Mr. Ban is most famous for his innovative work on temporary paper houses built to help those effected by natural disasters.

This is pretty new but after the recent earthquake in Haiti, these paper houses were being shipped out to help those who are in need. The first time that the paper houses were used was in another earthquake , The Great Hanshin.

Shigeru Ban said that ' when disasters happen, large concrete buildings are the first to fall but buildings made from lighter material don't stand against the wind so they do fall down but instead they are light and not as destructive in their destruction and it is also cheaper"

This is one of his most famous work, a temporary paper church constructed in Gobe
